Let It Be was The Beatles' last album, shortly after the group announced their split (in April 1970). The recordings came from more than a year earlier, even before the sessions of Abbey Road, which came on the market earlier. The underlying idea was to put the songs on the tape in one go, but the musical craftsmanship of the band members had deteriorated too much by not performing for years to be able to convince without overdubs. At the last minute, producer Phil Spector was hired to compile an album from hundreds of hours of tape. His heavily orchestrated contributions were especially detested by Paul McCartney. More than thirty years later, the recordings were remixed under his direction, without the additions of Spector. Songs like The Long And Winding Road and I Me Mine have certainly improved, but nothing can be done about nothing like Dig A Pony and For You Blue. The extra added version of Don't Let Me Down suffers from the unsteady vocals of John Lennon. Which makes Let It Be ... Naked sound a bit more coherent than the original, but not necessarily more convincing. The bonus CD features over twenty minutes of studio talks and first try-outs of songs, which are actually more interesting to the Beatles fan.
