  •      Ray Coryton Hutchinson (1907–1975) was a best-selling British novelist. His posthumously published novel Rising (1976) was short-listed for the 1976 Booker Prize.
  •      Plot : The story of a scientist who goes into the far north to seek a lost idealist, and who finds, on the way, the one woman who can stir him, but who fails in the goal he seeks. There is good adventure in the telling, though it is sometimes cluttered with words; there is an insidious thread of romance; but there is also a sense of incompleteness, of loose ends, of confusion. It is a book that disappoints while at the same time it intrigues the reader.
