ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This reinterpretation of Michelangelo’s David brings the classical sculpture into a vibrant and contemporary visual language. I wanted to highlight the strength, confidence, and serenity of the original figure while embedding it into an expressive and textured urban background.
The contrast between the sculptural stencil precision and the organic spontaneity of the painted surface creates a dynamic tension — a balance between ancient art and street culture. Subtle turquoise accents layered on the grey tones give the piece a modern, electric edge.
Each canvas I create is one-of-a-kind. Although the stencil may be reused, the background is always instinctively painted, which ensures that every artwork is truly unique.

I’m Alexandre Petrus (AP), a French stencil artist based in Villeneuve-lès-Avignon. I create original works using hand-drawn, hand-cut stencils layered over expressive, abstract backgrounds. Every artwork I produce is unique — no prints, no editions.
My subjects range from cultural icons to mythological figures and endangered animals, all painted with my distinctive contrast of precision and spontaneity. My works have been featured in exhibitions, mural festivals, and live painting performances across Europe.
