Beautiful antique plaster relief depicting the Madonna and Child, after a 15th-century Florentine original attributed to Desiderio da Settignano.
The serene expression of the Virgin, the standing Child holding a fruit, and the flowing drapery are all characteristic of the early Italian Renaissance (Quattrocento) style.
• Period: circa 1880–1930
• Material: plaster (stucco)
• Dimensions: 60 × 40 × 5 cm
• Condition: very good vintage condition with light age patina and minor wear consistent with age. No maker’s mark visible.
• Origin: probably Italian or French academic cast, based on a Florentine marble original.
A refined and decorative piece of devotional art, reminiscent of works preserved in the Bargello Museum (Florence) and the Bode-Museum (Berlin).
