I have here for sale a book entitled SPECIMENS OF BUSHMAN FOLKLORE Collected by the late W H I BLEEK and L C LLOYD Edited by the Latter With an Introduction by George McCall Theal, translation into English; Illustrations; and Appendix published by George Allen & Company, Ltd., London, in 1911. First edition. These traditional tales from the Ixam Bushman tribe of Southern Africa has been translated from their traditional language and collated in this volume. The book is a testament to the ancient tribe's beliefs, religion, and customs. The contents feature Mythology, Fables, Legends and Poetry; and History (Natural and Personal). There are 48 full-page illustrations, some of which are in colour.

Green cloth boards with a gilt illustration of a woman and gilt lettering on the front board and spine. Wear to the corners of the boards with wear to the top, bottom and along the hinges of the spine. Gilt page top edge. Bookplates if I Schapera on the front endpaper, and a stamp of University of Newcastle upon Tyne facing it. Ex-library book with stamps. Front hinge cracked and the colour frontispiece plate is detached, but all other pages are firm and the book is in very good overall condition. The half-title is present. xl, 468 pages, plus publisher's catalogue 8 pages. 22.5 cm x 15 cm.
