I have here for sale a book entitled A NATURALIST IN THE GUIANAS by Eugene Andre, with a preface by Dr J Scott Keltie. It is a first edition published by Smith, Elder & Co, London in 1904. It has 34 b/w photographic plates and a fold-out map. One of the plates is colour and the route on the map is delineated in red.

Andre was an explorer and collector of natural history specimens . He wrote a glossary of common and scientific names of plants and animals and put together a collection of 1800 bird skins which are held at Tring. He was a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and a Fellow of the Zoological Society. He travelled largely in Venezuela and Columbia and introduced the Anthurium plant to Trinidad & Tobago, 1915. He travelled up the Cuara, a tributary of the Orinoco, in 1897, 1898, 1900-1901 and describes the natural history and the native people. He made valuable contributions to our knowledge of bird life in the Venezuelan forests. 6 of his party of 14 died after a shipwreck and 26 days' journey through the wilderness to the nearest settlement. It has become a classic work on the area.
