•      The Saint-Bertin abbey in the French Sint-Omer, partially preserved as a gelding, was dedicated to Saint-Bertinus, the first abbot of the abbey. The abbey had a considerable library. The monks were also chroniclers. An important source for the knowledge of the 9th century are the "Annales de Saint-Bertin & de Saint-Vaast".
