Pair of Mid-Century Enamel-on-Copper Organic Trays – Attributed to Capo Esmaltes, Spain, c. 1960sDescriptionA striking pair of vintage mid-century decorative trays / vide-poches, executed in fired enamel on copper and attributed to Capo Esmaltes, Spain, dating from approximately the 1960s.Both pieces have distinctive organic, asymmetrical triangular forms, with highly colourful enamel decoration incorporating vivid blue, turquoise, pink, red, green, yellow and metallic tones. The decoration has a strongly botanical and abstract character, with flower and foliage-like motifs set against richly coloured grounds. The free-form shapes and exuberant enamel work are characteristic of the Spanish mid-century enamel objects associated with Capo Esmaltes, a maker known for producing decorative enamel-on-copper trays, boxes, mirrors and related objects during the mid-20th century. Comparable Capo Esmaltes trays are documented as Spanish, dating to the 1960s. 1stdibs.comThe pieces are not moulded glass or crystal; they are made from shaped copper with a fired vitreous enamel surface. They can be used as small vide-poches, jewellery trays, catch-all dishes or purely decorative objects. The pair presents particularly well together, despite each having its own individual arrangement of colours and motifs.Maker: Attributed to Capo EsmaltesCountry of origin: SpainPeriod: Circa 1960sMaterial: Enamel on copperStyle: Mid-Century Modern / Organic ModernType: Decorative tray / vide-poche / catch-allCondition: Good vintage condition, with signs of age and use consistent with their period.
