Jean-Claude Lauzon's second feature is an enchanting and subversive cross between "My life as a dog" and David Lynch about a boy who escapes his family's madness by exploring his dreams.
Alone in the middle of the Night the child Leolo opens his chest of memories and inscribes his observations on the ways of the world in a little note book. His memories speak of the tenements and squalid courtyards of East Montreal and of a family plagued by madness.
In his dream World, Leolo has a notion he is indeed born of the sun , or maybe of a tomato carrying the sperm of a mischievous Sicilian peasant. Day by day, he is surrounded by strangers: a father who thinks z bowel movement a day keeps the doctor away, a cowardly muscle bound brother, two sisters who spend most of their time in the psychiatric ward and a grandfather who is held responsible for the genetic failure of the whole family. Only Leolo's mother is sane , a sweetly mountainous figure who offers comfort and hope in a sea of lunacy.
Leolo's obsessions are all about Bianca, the beautiful Italian neighbour, so close and yet so far, so young and so jaded. Leolo's first sexual impulse and love.
