Biographie:

Roy Willis, Ph.D est chercheur en anthropologie à l'Université d'Edinbourg.

Mieux connu pour son travail en Afrique Centrale et Orientale, c'est l'auteur de plusieurs livres, y compris de "Man and Beast" (1975), une étude très acclamée concernant le symbolisme animal dans les croyances des peuples africains.

Roy Willis, qui a commencé son travail ethnologique en 1962 chez les Fipa, en Tanzanie, revint en 1996 chez les Lungu voisins, en Zambie, après un premier séjour en 1990 afin de retrouver les traces du culte aux esprits possesseurs (le ngulu des ngulu) qu'on lui avait décrit comme secret et presque disparu.

Son ouvrage, sous-titré « Voyage à l'intérieur du Moi », se tient au plus près de l'expérience de terrain, mêlant avec bonheur les observations factuelles et les extraits du journal de bord, les élaborations théoriques et les notations sur l'atmosphère quotidienne de la petite équipe de recherche.
