Gorgeous French polychrome bronzed metal statue by Gaston Veuvenot Leroux. end 19th century .
Oriental man with opium pipe on mahogany wooden pedestal. His mantle has been cold painted. The pipe (a little too high in his hand in the pictures!) comes out of his hand and can be unscrewed into two pieces. One finger (one that holds the pipe) has been repaired!
On original wooden platform, covered with the old red (worn) velvet cloth. The quality and age of the pedestal corresponds with the quality of the statue so it probably is the original one. It is beautifully chiselled in mahogany!
Wonderful high quality sculpture! Superb details!! Look at his face, his beard, his hands and feet.... , the details on his mantle and headpiece!
Signed in full on the back of the statue.
Beautiful patina!!
