Rare Set of 4 Dining Chairs by Eric Sigfrid Persson — Sweden, 1970s
A designer who arrived at furniture through architecture—not the other way around.
Eric Sigfrid Persson was a Swedish builder, inventor, furniture designer and functionalist visionary. He helped shape modern Malmö through pioneering residential projects including Malmgården, Ribershus and Friluftsstaden, while also developing innovative architectural solutions such as the perspective window.
After decades devoted to architecture and construction, Persson turned his attention to furniture design. During the early 1970s, he began experimenting with extruded aluminium—translating his architectural thinking into sculptural, technically inventive seating.
This rare set of four belongs to that fascinating later chapter of his career. Rounded aluminium profiles create an almost continuous outline around the seat and back, while the distinctive twin-footed base gives the chairs their graphic, architectural presence.
The original chocolate-brown leather shows individual folds, texture and naturally developed patina. Surface marks and traces of use remain visible on both the leather and aluminium, preserving the authentic character of the set.
Uncommon, functional and unmistakably experimental Swedish design.
