A beautiful and complete set of eight Art Deco knife rests, made of clear uranium glass and dating from approximately the 1930s.Under normal daylight, the glass appears elegant, transparent and virtually colourless. When illuminated with a 365 nm UV lamp, all eight pieces display the characteristic intense yellow-green fluorescence of uranium glass, as clearly shown in the photographs. Each knife rest features a long, vertically ribbed central column with stylised flower- or clover-shaped ends. Based on the design, quality and period of manufacture, the set is attributed to the renowned Belgian glassworks Val Saint Lambert. The pieces are unsigned; the attribution should therefore not be considered a confirmed factory identification. The elevated construction allows the blade of a table knife to rest approximately 2.5 cm above the tablecloth. Besides their practical original purpose, the pieces form a striking decorative display under UV lighting.Details* Object: set of knife rests* Number of pieces: 8* Style: Art Deco* Period: approximately the 1930s* Country of attribution: Belgium* Manufacturer: attributed to Val Saint Lambert* Material: clear pressed uranium glass* UV response: intense yellow-green fluorescence* UV wavelength tested: 365 nm* Length: approximately 9 cm each* Width: approximately 3.5 cm* Height: approximately 3.5 cm* Knife-support height: approximately 2.5 cm* Total weight: approximately 707 g* Signed or marked: noConditionThe complete set is in excellent vintage condition.
