A sweeping survey of a century of European jewellery. Presents selected gems from the vast collection owned by the Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim.

This glorious publication features examples of distinctive jewelry design as superlative works of art. The pieces range from the mid 19th century, when the ideas of the romantic movement informed jewellery design, over Historicism in the latter half of the century and the extravagant jewels created by Art Nouveau and Jugenstil artists, to the astringent forms of Art Deco and New Objectivity.

The superb creations of Jules Wiese and Froment-Meurice are presented together with historic jewelry from the house of Castellani and Falize as well as jewelry by Ernesto Rinzi and Carlo Giuliano.

The period before and after 1900 is represented by gems created by Rene Lalique and Georges Fouquet, Vevet, and Georg Kleeman, Wiener Werkstatten and exponents of the English Arts and Crafts movement.

Art jewelry of the 1920s and 1930s is documented by the masterly works of Jean Fouquet, Rene Boivin, Elisabeth Treskow, Theodor Wende and George Hunt amongst others.

The jewelry made by the "artist-industrialist" Theodor Fahrner is considered here along with the jewelry industrially produced in Pforzheim by the firm of F. Zerrenner.
