This Rolex Explorer II with reference 16570 is in great condition. It is fitted with the sought after white / Polar dial. The lume is still very strong. The watch was produced back in 2001, with a K serial number on the case and papers. It has a strong 40mm stainless steel oyster case and is strapped on a matching stainless steel Oyster bracelet that has almost no stretch. The bracelet is also in mint condition. The 24 hour bezel is also in great condition, with only some small marks on it. The watch runs on the automatic Rolex calibre 3185. The movement is running great, keeping accurate time and was fully serviced by our watchmaker. The watch comes with its original Rolex certificate / papers and an original Rolex box.

Released in 1971, the Rolex Explorer II is an oft-overlooked watch within the Swiss manufacture’s collection. Designed specifically for speleologists (that’s cave divers for the uninitiated) the watch is best thought of as a sibling rather than a successor to the original Explorer.

Easily identified by the 24-hour fixed steel bezel, contrasting 24-hour hand and highly legible dial, the features of the Explorer II come in handy for those that need to know the time of day in environments where there is no natural light. Very niche and very, very Rolex.

For those of us not in the cave exploring trade, the Explorer II also works great as a no-nonsense sports watch with additional time telling features and a minimal aesthetic. Current references keep it simple with either a white or black dial and a return of the oversized orange 24 hour hand first seen on the debut reference from 1971. Vintage references offer a slightly smaller case size as well as pleasing patinated dials and markers.
