A fourth sub-dial, at the 12’clock position, has moonphase and date indicators.The white-gold bezel, with its tachymetric scale, is mounted on a 42 mm stainless steel case and presented on a matching bracelet. At the heart of this timepiece is OMEGA’s manual-winding chronograph movement with rhodium-plated finish. Probably the most well-known watch in the Omega line-up, the Speedmaster has been a benchmark for chronograph watches since its introduction in 1957.

Originally designed as a high precision wrist computer for motorsport timing, the Speedmaster gained its most famous association in 1965 when it was chosen by NASA as the official watch for the Gemini and Apollo space missions. The Speedy’s crowning achievement came in 1969 when it was worn by all three crew members of the Apollo 11 mission, placing it in the history books as the first watch on the Moon.

This led to a huge boost in popularity and cemented the Speedmaster’s legendary status in the watch world. Today, the Speedmaster is available in numerous sizes and configurations including the Moonwatch series, which is based on the original hand-wound design used for the Apollo missions.
