The Calatrava is one of Patek Philippe’s most well-known and longest standing series. First released in 1932, the Calatrava was the brainchild of designer David Penney, who took inspiration from the Bauhaus movement to create a dress watch that is both elegant and highly legible.
The series was initially powered by manually-wound movements, but later equipped with thin self-winding calibres from 1953 onwards. The minimalist dial and low profile case make the Calatrava the perfect choice for formal occasions where a watch should complement rather than dominate an outfit.
Today, the Patek Philippe Calatrava is available in a wide variety of styles to suit many tastes however, all are made from precious metal and all stay true to the original design principles set out by Penney in 1932.
