It was the first waterproof, self-winding wristwatch to use the patented rotor system that has been the blueprint of almost every subsequent watch in the Rolex catalogue. The combination of the waterproof Oyster case design and a self winding movement led to a watch case so perfect and versatile that Rolex decided to use it as the basis of the majority of their future models.
