Fluoriet (ook wel vloeispaat genoemd) is de minerale vorm van calciumfluoride en behoort tot de halogenide mineralen. Zuiver fluoriet is kleurloos en transparant, zowel in zichtbaar als ultraviolet licht, maar onzuiverheden maken het meestal tot een kleurrijk mineraal en de steen wordt gebruikt als siersteen en als lapidair.
Fluoriet is allochromatisch, wat betekent dat het gekleurd kan zijn met elementaire onzuiverheden. Fluoriet komt voor in een breed scala aan kleuren en wordt daarom wel “het kleurrijkste mineraal ter wereld” genoemd. Elke kleur van de regenboog in verschillende schakeringen wordt vertegenwoordigd door fluorietmonsters, samen met witte, zwarte en heldere kristallen. De meest voorkomende kleuren zijn paars, blauw, groen, geel of kleurloos. Minder vaak komen roze, rood, wit, bruin en zwart voor. Kleurzones of banden komen vaak voor.

Every color of the rainbow in various shades is represented by fluorite samples, along with white, black, and clear crystals. The most common colors are purple, blue, green, yellow, or colorless. Less common are pink, red, white, brown, and black. Color zoning or banding is commonly present.
