Controller for electric heating elements: 1- or 2-phase resistive loads (1x 230 VAC / 2 x 400 VAC) with overheating protection. Connections for external temperature sensor, possibility to connect an external potentiometer or read in the desired temperature via an analogue input (0 - 10 VDC, 0-20 mA). Maximum resistive load 3.2 (1 x 230 VAC) or 6 kW (2 x 400 VAC). Expansion module (slave) available.

Operation

Electric heating elements convert electricity into warm air. This warm air can be used to heat a room or building. Electric heating element controllers work by monitoring the temperature of the environment and adjusting the power supplied to the heating element to maintain a desired temperature set point.

The controller uses a temperature sensor, such as a PT500 temperature sensor, to measure the ambient temperature. The sensor is usually placed in the area where temperature control is desired.The controller allows you to set the desired temperature with the integrated potentiometer. It uses a control algorithm to compare the measured temperature with the desired setpoint temperature. Based on this comparison, the controller determines whether heating is necessary or not.

If the measured temperature is lower than the set point temperature, the controller activates the heating element. It regulates the power supplied to the heating element to generate heat and increase the temperature.

The Technology
The controller uses time-proportional control with TRIAC technology. This is a method of controlling the power to heaters or other resistive loads based on the desired temperature setpoint. It involves modulating the power delivered to the load by controlling the amount of time the power is turned on during each cycle of the alternating current (AC) waveform.

TRIAC (Triode for Alternating Current) is a type of electronic switch that can control current in both directions in an alternating current circuit. It acts as a solid-state relay, allowing the controller to quickly and controlledly switch on and off the power to the heating element.

In time-proportional control, the TRIAC is used to cycle the power to the heating element. The amount of time the power is turned on during each cycle is varied to achieve the desired temperature setpoint. For example, if the setpoint is lower than the current temperature, the power can be turned on for a shorter duration, thereby reducing the total power delivered to the heating element. Conversely, if the setpoint is higher, the power can be turned on for a longer period to increase the power delivered.

Day-night temperature control
The desired day and night temperature can be adjusted via two potentiometers on the front. The day or night regime can be selected via a digital input. If necessary, an external potentiometer can be used to adjust the temperature setpoint remotely. PT500 Temperature sensor

Electric heaters up to 3.2 kW (230 VAC) or up to 6 kW (400 VAC) can be controlled. If necessary, additional heating capacity can be connected via an extension module. The extension or slave module can be connected via the output (0-10 V or 0-20 mA). The additional heating elements are controlled synchronously.Master or Slave
The AH2C1 can operate as either a Master or Slave device. Master and Slave modes are selected via Modbus holding register 13 or, if you are not using Modbus, via the DIP switches. Depending on the selected mode and the intended use, the controller must be connected to external devices.Robust housing
The housing is made of high-quality r-ABS VO (UL94) plastic. This material is self-extinguishing in the event of fire, very strong and offers good protection against impact. It offers IP54 protection against moisture and dirt.
