The Portuguese fado singer Cristina Branco is no stranger to Dutch fado lovers. Thanks to her vocal participation on Blof's single Dansen Aan Zee, Branco has now become known to a much wider audience. Fado is an old genre in which feelings of suffering, melancholy and fate are sung. In the 1990s, fado was rediscovered and renewed by young musicians. Branco and the composer and guitar accompanist Custódio Castelo form an inseparable unit, who are jointly developing their own style. Texts by Portuguese and Brazilian poets are set to music with care and subtly interpreted by Branco with her light, warm and lived voice. The theme of the album Sensus is eroticism, a collection of visions of sexuality and love from poets from the eighteenth century to the present day. Branco, Custelo and accompanying musicians rise to unprecedented heights in this CD with wonderfully beautiful music.
