Rainbow (ook bekend als Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow of Blackmore's Rainbow) is een Britse rockband onder leiding van gitarist Ritchie Blackmore. Opgericht in 1975.Tegen 1973 had Blackmore Deep Purple door een aanzienlijk personeelswijziging geleid, waarbij Ian Gillan en Roger Glover werden vervangen door David Coverdale en Glenn Hughes. De nieuwe leden wilden echter graag nieuwe muzikale stijlen toevoegen en Blackmore vond zijn verzoek om het door Steve Hammond geschreven nummer "Black Sheep of the Family" op te nemen, samen met "Sixteenth Century Greensleeves", door de band afgewezen. Hij besloot het nummer in plaats daarvan op te nemen met Ronnie James Dio, gebruikmakend van Dio's band ELF (3) als aanvullende musici. Hij genoot van het resultaat, en er werd tussen februari en maart 1975 een volledig album opgenomen onder de titel Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in Musicland Studios in München, Duitsland.
