Red Riding Hood has decisions to make that effect not only her path in the woods, but ultimately the path of her heart as well. Fairy tales for the twenty-first century, Joe Tyler and Ralph Tedesco have mildly updated the original Brothers Grimm tales, such as Red Riding Hood and Cinderella, adding modern day twists to the beloved legends. Still fraught with moralistic tribulations, the tales have become even richer in symbolism thansk to Joe Dodd’s artistry.

From the Comics Buyer’s Guide:
Here’s an odd creature. The cover features a sexed-up “Bad Girl” version of Little Red Riding Hood. The story tells of a girl who’s more virtuous in her behavior than her hottie appearance would suggest. After rebuffing her persistent boyfriend, she reads the fairy tale and imagines herself in the title role.
It’s a “not for kids” retelling, but more in a PG-13 vein than an R-rated one. There’s some blood but no real gore. There are sexual overtones but no actual nudity. The raciest part is the cover.
The story leaves much to be desired, although the art is generally attractive. Special mention should be made of Lisa Lubera’s colors. Much of the action occurs under the cover of night, but the colors do not lose their vibrancy.
There are technical glitches on non-story pages. The “next issue” ad is a blurry fax, and the inside covers are blank—what’s up with that?
Nevertheless, it’s an admirable first attempt, and it would be worth seeing whether the storytelling tightens up in subsequent issues.
