Gordon - Riddles in History - London, Arthur Baker Limited, a Subsidiary of Weidenfeld (Publishers) Limited, 1974 - 1st edition - 188p. - Hardcover: linen binding with gold-printed spine, with original, polychrome dust jacket - 15.90 x 23.40 cm - Very good copy: minimal signs of wear, some foxing spots on the top and long edges, dust jacket with small tears at spine head and tail.
  •      Cyrus Herzl Gordon (1908–2001) was an American scholar of Near Eastern cultures and ancient languages.
  •      The Paraiba inscription is said to be a Phoenician inscription carved in stone and found in northeastern Brazil in 1872.
  •      The Vinland Map was claimed to be a 15th-century mappa mundi with unique information about Norse exploration of North America but is now known to be a 20th-century forgery.
  •      The Kensington Runestone, a rectangular slab of graywacke stone inscribed with runes, was discovered in 1898 near Kensington, Minnesota.
  •      The Spirit Pond runestones are three stones with alleged runic inscriptions, found at Spirit Pond in Phippsburg, Maine in 1971 by a Walter J. Elliott, Jr., a carpenter born in Bath, Maine. The stones, currently housed at the Maine State Museum, are widely dismissed as a hoax or a fraud.
