  • Eric Robert Russell Linklater (1899-1974) was a Scottish writer. During the First World War

he interrupted his studies to serve in the 'Black Watch', but ultimately obtained his doctorate in English language and literature. He then worked for a number of years as a journalist for the Times of India in Bombay. He settled in the United States in the late 1920s. He later returned to Scotland and taught English literature at the University of Aberdeen. Later he also became rector there.
  • Mary I Stuart (1542-1587), also known as Mary, Queen of Scots, was Queen of Scotland from December 14, 1542 to July 24, 1567. She was the daughter of King James V and Mary of Guise. She became queen at the age of six days, following her father's death shortly after the Battle of Solway Moss. Mary Stuart is perhaps the best-known Scottish monarch, partly because of her tragic life history and her end on the chopping block.
