•      The Borgias : The Borgia family (Spanish: Borja) was a Spanish-Italian noble family, originally from Borja in Aragón (Spain). When Alfonso, Bishop of Valencia, was 'created' a cardinal (the Vatican term for making a cardinal), the family settled in Italy. In 1455, Alfonso was elected pope and took the name Calixtus III. From this position he appointed family members to important positions. Members of the Borgia family included Lucrezia Borgia and Cesare Borgia, daughter and son respectively of Rodrigo Borgia (Pope!). Among the many accusations against the Borgia family are incest, adultery and murder.
