Ferdinand Leeke, né le 7 avril 1859 à Burg alors dans la province de Saxe et mort le 16 novembre 19371 à Nuremberg en Allemagne, est un peintre allemand, célèbre pour ses illustrations des scènes des opéras de Richard Wagner (cf Wikipedia) Ferdinand Leeke was a German painter best known for his illustrations of Richard Wagner’s operas and other Germanic mythological scenes. Born on April 7, 1859 in Burg bei Magdeburg, Germany, Leeke received his formal training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Johann Caspar Herterich. He primarily painted portraits and traditional German genre paintings. Siegfried Wagner, son of the composer Richard Wagner, commissioned Leeke to paint a series based on ten different operas written by his father. These paintings were then reproduced as posters via six-color photogravure, which was a new and revolutionary process at the time. The artist died in 1923 in Nuremberg, Germany.(cf.
