A turquoise vase likely made in Persia. (modern day Iran)

The initial vase was created using clay, to later be glazed with a blue, sandy paste. This paste was created by mixing powdered quartz, obtained from grinding or crushing quartz crystals, in combination with refined clay and alkaline glass frit. This alkaline glass is responsible for the turquoise colour present in the glaze.

Besides its striking colours, glass frit is also used in these so called stonepastes so that the mixture or glaze can liquify at lower temperatures, resulting in less resources needed for the oven to reach its needed temperatures.

The vase is in a perfect antique condition and could date from around the 12th - 13th century.

It weighs 0,75 kg, has a max diameter of 10,5 cm, and a height of 24 cm.
