Floris Hovers for Cor Unum Ceramics- The Carter Vase Circle. Year- 2016.Material- Earthenware and steel. Dimensions- 25 x 13 x 31 cm.Used but in Overall good condition. Contains one small chip on the bottom. This is a very limited circle edition. Combined with more vases this vase makes a big circle op vases. See last photo. This vase is a homage to the cars that Hovers brings back very often in his work. The typical visual language of cast engine blocks and gear housings formed the basis for Hovers design. Where engine blocks and housings are mainly cast from aluminum or steel, Hovers has opted for a different material and application. Namely those of cast clay and with the ultimate goal of a vase. Engine blocks and housings are often sealed by means of a gasket. The head gasket that provides the seal between the engine block and the cylinder head is well-known.Hovers was born in 1978 in the Netherlands.After some basic training in engineering and advertising and presentation techniques in Utrecht, he studied at the Design Academy Eindhoven, and graduated in 2004.In 2006 he started his own design studio and workshop in Raamsdonksveer.A basic and simple approach to techniques and materials is essential for Hovers to communicate his vision and working method.Hovers predominantly produces his own work; he cherishes the entire process from idea to finished product. He believes that the designer can also be a craftsman who realizes his own designs.Besides developing his own designs, Hovers also works for brands and manufacturers such as Cor Unum, Magis, Goods, Functionals, Volvo and more.
