His first post as professional was at Inverness at 1910. He looked set for a glittering career, finishing third in the Scottish Professional Championship in 1912 and becoming professional at Nairn shortly afterwards.Sadly he died, aged 30, in a motor bike accident between Inverness and Nairn in 1913.A Sammy club was a round backed cleek designed to have a higher CoG (centre of gravity) than a regular cleek to maximise run, particularly in the wind, mainly for use on links courses. It was invented by Jack Fulford, pro and master clubmaker at Moortown Golf Club in Leeds around 1909.
