The hereditary ruler Shaddam IV of House Corrino holds the seat as the most recent supreme leader of his ancestors who have held the title for over 10,000 years. Emperor Shaddam is married to a woman of the Bene Gesserit order with whom he has five daughters. Both House Atreides and House Harkonnen are apart of the Landsraad and their long-term rivalry escalates when House Atreides is assigned as the new ruler over the desert planet Arrakis.

• House Fremen

The Fremen people are known as being the native group of the planet Arrakis, and they have evolved their way of life to survive the harsh climate of the desert planet. They are descendants of the Zensunni Wanderers who migrated to Arrakis and were the first humans to inhabit it. They were forced to work in rough conditions to harvest spice under the harsh rule of the Harkonnen, until the House Atreides took over and formed relationships with them.
