A flamenco guitar by José López Bellido (1947–2024), one of Granada’s most important and highly regarded guitar makers. This instrument was crafted in 2007 and features a cedar top and a body made of Indian rosewood. In terms of sound, it is entirely in the tradition of the great Granada guitars: wonderfully balanced, full-bodied and powerful. Compared to Bellido’s ‘Blancas’, this ‘Negra’ develops even more power and richness of tone. The bass notes are rich and resonant, whilst the treble possesses the singing, sweet tone typical of José López Bellido. The cedar also lends the instrument a darker, warmer timbre. At the same time, the response remains quick, direct and lively – precisely the blend of warmth and precision that characterises a high-quality Flamenca Negra. This is a genuine professional instrument that is not only ideally suited to flamenco. Thanks to its resonant, warm yet precise sound, it is also an excellent choice for classical, Latin or jazz. There are a few Negras (labelled FN – Flamenca Negra) with spruce tops from this luthier; Negras with cedar tops, however, are rare in his work. What particularly fascinates me about this guitar is its exceptionally good playability – not only with the fretting hand, but also near the bridge with the strumming hand. The comfortable, flat neck profile, the scale length of 657 mm and the low string action of currently 2.6 mm at the 12th fret ensure an exceptionally smooth playing experience.

The guitar is in good condition and technically sound. There are no cracks and no repairs. It has been played regularly and with pleasure and therefore shows the usual signs of wear: fingernail marks on the top, scratches and pressure marks on the back, as well as minor imperfections in the finish. But nothing serious. As the original owner did not play flamenco, only a static golpeador was fitted. For flamenco playing, it is recommended that a new golpeador be fitted. The instrument comes with a well-preserved case. The guitar is located in Germany, near Dresden. Shipment is possible.

Dit instrument is vervaardigd in 2007 en heeft een cederhouten bovenblad en een klankkast van Indisch palissander. Qua klank past hij volledig in de traditie van de grote gitaren uit Granada: prachtig uitgebalanceerd, vol en krachtig. In vergelijking met Bellido’s ‘Blancas’ ontwikkelt deze ‘Negra’ nog meer kracht en klankrijkdom. De basnoten zijn rijk en resonant, terwijl de hoge tonen de zangerige, zoete klank bezitten die zo typerend is voor José López Bellido. Het cederhout geeft het instrument bovendien een donkerder, warmer timbre. Tegelijkertijd blijft de respons snel, direct en levendig – precies die mix van warmte en precisie die kenmerkend is voor een hoogwaardige Flamenca Negra. Dit is een echt professioneel instrument dat niet alleen bij uitstek geschikt is voor flamenco. Dankzij de resonante, warme en toch precieze klank is het ook een uitstekende keuze voor klassieke muziek, latin of jazz. Er zijn enkele Negras (met het label FN – Flamenca Negra) met sparrenbovenbladen van deze gitaarbouwer; Negras met cederhouten bovenbladen zijn echter zeldzaam in zijn oeuvre. Wat mij vooral fascineert aan deze gitaar is de uitzonderlijk goede bespeelbaarheid – niet alleen met de frethand, maar ook bij de brug met de tokkelhand. Het comfortabele, vlakke halsprofiel, de mensuur van 657 mm en de lage snaaractie van momenteel 2,6 mm bij de 12e fret zorgen voor een uitzonderlijk soepele speelervaring.

De gitaar verkeert in goede staat en is technisch in orde. Er zijn geen scheuren en geen reparaties. Er is regelmatig en met plezier op gespeeld en daarom vertoont hij de gebruikelijke gebruikssporen: nagelafdrukken op het bovenblad, krassen en drukplekken op de achterkant, evenals kleine onvolkomenheden in de afwerking. Maar niets ernstigs. Aangezien de oorspronkelijke eigenaar geen flamenco speelde, is er alleen een statische golpeador aangebracht. Voor het spelen van flamenco wordt aanbevolen een nieuwe golpeador te laten aanbrengen. Het instrument wordt geleverd met een goed bewaarde koffer.
