AMIX CSL 3086 DO Patch, In-Line Recording console from the 70's! Really big sounding preamps, with a pretty unique character. Very few information about this desk because very few of them were made. Amix/Hudson made especially broadcast consoles, this is (as far as I know) the only Studio-recording console they made. 30 mic/line channels (trafo balanced). Each channel has 6 auxes (one stereo, with dedicated pan pot, pre or post fader switchable). Also tape-monitor controls that allows you to use the mic inputs, EQ and level control to go to the recorder, and have the returns coming back on the faders. To be able to make a monitor-mix while recording. 8 subgroups Insert's and direct out on each channel, on the Jack (TS/TRS) patchbay. Eq's: low boost/cut, shelf or bell switchable
mids boost/cut, sweepable from 200 Hz to 10k
High shelf, and EQ bypass switch.
Direct outs (tape-sends) 1 to 24, have each a switch above the patchbay, that can be set to direct out of each channel, OR to send a sub group output (1 to 8) to that dedicated direct-out channel. Really handy for summing multiple channels together for recording (multiple mic's on one source for instance). Originally this desk did not have phantom power, but is built in by a priveous tech, switchable on each channel.
This console has quite some history. I've been told it was in a studio in Italy in it's early life, to record a lot of Italo/Disco stuff. After that it was in a studio in Belgium called ''Primitive Sound Studio'', where stuff like ''Sonny Vincent & Spite - Spitefull LP'' was recorded, with bandmembers of the Damned, the Stooges and the Sex Pistols. I used it for quite some time in my studio in Rotterdam, where I recorded for instance: Real Farmer - Compare what's there, L'orne debut album, Forbidden Wizards, Daze In Bed - WET, Loveth Besamoh, Pizza Knife - Magnet People, all kinds of stuff. I always loved the pre-amps of this desk, as they are warm, open and natural sounding, and can be overdriven very nicely, which works very well for Rock music. I would often push kick's, snare's and guitars on this desk, to get a more in your face gritty sound. Very pleasing! Since I had this console i would barely use other preamps. Also very nice on vocals! Basicly everything. I also used it to mix or sum channels from the computer, some times. Very wide and open sounding.
The only issue still is that there is a little hum on the master-buss. It sounds like a power-supply or ground-loop issue, never had the time to figure that out, but should not be too hard to fix. It also never bothered me because compared to the music it's pretty quiet. Only if you turn up the volume quite alot you hear the hum. The hum is non-existend on the channels themselves or on the direct outs! So for recording it is already perfect. Comes with power supply, and all the cabeling from the multipinconnectors on the back to Jack (TS, unbalanced) cabeling.
