Orcs,goblins,gnolls...chances are that if you play D&D you've either defeated dozens of these classic enimies or have placed dozens for other players to defeat. By the time Pcs are past the first quater of level advancement these beasties pose almost no threat when not encountered by the hundreds. But with this book that all changes. It presents most of the savage humanoids(if not all)from the Monster Manual as player races. Now instead of "just a couple of orcs" you can go up against some 5th level orc fighters, or some 3rd level gnoll rangers or what ever the Dm can come up with. I think it's great that these fantasy classics can now offer a challenge to the greatest heros instead of being another easy kill. I know as a Dm that I'd rather send a group of skilled and coordinatede Hobgoblin warriors against my players instead of some big monster that my players will get mad about if it acts like it's brain is any bigger than a pea. Then there's the new possibilities of monster based campaigns. I bet there's alot of D&D players out there who would love a chance to see things from the other side for a change. The book also adds dozens of brand new monster races to use as pcs or enemies. All in all this book is a must have if you want to keep some of the best known fantasy monsters as an important part of your campaign instead of haveing them be nothing but cannon fodder.
