The Wall is the crowning glory of Roger Waters, Pink Floyd's bassist and principal songwriter. The Wall is a concept album based on the life of a fictional rock star named Pink Floyd. This Floyd obviously showed a lot of similarities with Waters. Waters had firm control over the entire production process. He worked closely with guitarist David Gilmour and producer Bob Ezrin, but keyboardist Rick Wright and drummer Nick Mason were barely involved. The Wall tells of Pink Floyd's self-imposed loneliness. He has retreated behind a huge wall. Waters elaborates on some childhood traumas on this album such as the death of his father (in Another Brick In The Wall), his overprotective mother (in Mother) and in Young Lust he deals with his fascination and fear of sex. Halfway through the album, during Goodbye Blue Sky, Pink is already in the middle of a nervous breakdown. The second part of the double album is an ode to loneliness, with the highlights being Is There Anybody Out There? and Comfortably Numb. Ultimately, the rock star condemns herself in The Trial and the thrown wall falls. The Wall was a great success in Europe and America. With the single Another Brick In The Wall the band scored a major worldwide hit for the first time. The stage show around The Wall was so colossal that it could only be performed in a few cities. In addition, the album was also filmed with Bob Geldof in the lead. Ultimately, the rock star condemns herself in The Trial and the thrown wall falls.
