Het toont het beroemde mystiek-mnemonische (geheugenhulpmiddel) systeem De sex alis cherubin (Over de zes vleugels van de Cherub), traditioneel toegeschreven aan de heilige Bonaventura (1221–1274) maar in wezen teruggaand op Alanus ab Insulis. Het vel presenteert zowel de monumentale beeldkant als de daaraan gekoppelde tekstzijde (Recto en Verso van hetzelfde blad). De Recto – De houtsnede van de Cherub: Een indringende, grootschalige houtsnede die een zesvleugelig engel (Cherub) afbeeldt. In de late middeleeuwen en de vroegmoderne periode diende deze figuur als visueel en mnemonisch systeem om zich voor te bereiden op de biecht. De vleugels (Prima ala tot Sexta ala) en de afzonderlijke veren zijn gelabeld met christelijke deugden en vereisten voor een geldige biecht, met kerntermen zoals Confessio (biecht), Satisfactio (genugtuiging), Veritas (waarheid), Humilitas (nederigheid), Puritas mens (reiniging van de geest) en Simplicitas (eenvoud). De Verso – Het Tekstblad: Op de achterzijde bevindt zich de originele opening van het tractaat, gedrukt in een zware, monumentale gotische typografie (Textura). De tekst begint met de regel: “Incipit tractatus de sex alis cherubin a beato Bonaventura editus...” en gaat vervolgens in op de spirituele betekenis van de veren van de eerste vleugel („Prima ala est confessio...“). Datings & Bibliografie: De stijlkenmerken van de houtsnede en de typografie plaatsen de productie met zekerheid tussen 1490 en 1510. Een aparte, bijgevoegd verzamelaarsnota op een los blad wijst het werk toe aan een „Onbekende vormsnijder uit de 15e eeuw“. Aangezien echter de zware gotische lettertype en de specifieke houtsnede-blok zowel in de late Inkunabeltijd als kort daarna werden gebruikt, blijft ca. 1490–1510 de meest academisch nauwkeurige toewijzing. Toestand & Restauratieverklaring: Het originele, fijne papier is montéiert op een dun karton voor verzamelaars. Bovenaan rechts (in het gebied van de „Sexta ala“) is een scheur losgekomen. Het originele papieren fragment is echter volledig aanwezig en blijft los bevestigd op dit specifieke stuk dun karton. It displays the famous mystical-mnemotechnic (memory aid) system De sex alis cherubin (On the Six Wings of the Cherub), traditionally attributed to Saint Bonaventure (1221–1274) but originating from Alanus ab Insulis. The lot presents both the monumental visual art side and the accompanying text (recto and verso of the same sheet). The Recto – The Woodcut of the Cherub: A striking, large-format woodcut depicting a six-winged angel (cherub). In the late Middle Ages and early modern period, this diagram served as a visual guide to prepare the faithful for confession. The wings (Prima ala to Sexta ala) and individual feathers are labeled with Christian virtues and requirements for a valid confession, featuring key terms such as Confessio (Confession), Satisfactio (Satisfaction), Veritas (Truth), Humilitas (Humility), Puritas mens (Purity of mind), and Simplicitas (Simplicity). The Verso – The Text Leaf: The reverse side contains the original opening of the treatise, printed in a heavy, monumental Gothic typeset (Textura). The text begins with the line: “Incipit tractatus de sex alis cherubin a beato Bonaventura editus...” and proceeds to explain the spiritual meaning of the feathers of the first wing (“Prima ala est confessio...”). Dating & Bibliography: The stylistic elements of the woodcut and the typography firmly place the production between 1490 and 1510. A separate, accompanying collector's note on a detached sheet attributes the work to an "Unknown form-cutter of the 15th century". However, since this heavy Gothic type and the specific woodblock were utilized both during the late Incunabula period and shortly thereafter, c. 1490–1510 remains the most academically precise attribution. Condition & Restoration Note: The original, fine paper is mounted on a thin collector's backing card. There is a tear/separation at the upper right corner (affecting the area of the "Sexta ala"). Crucially, the original paper fragment is fully present and remains attached separately to that specific piece of the thin card.
