Piet Lippens was a less well-known Belgian painter, born in 1890 in Gentbrugge and died in 1981 in Ghent. He moved to New York at the age of 17 and then stayed several times in the United States, where he did all sorts of work. During his military service, he learned to draw and paint in his free time at the Tournai Academy, collaborating with Chantry and Pion. Then he returned to the United States, this time to Chicago. After World War I, he took classes for a few months at the Ghent Academy, directed by J. Delvin, and at Sint- Lucas. He created landscapes, city and village corners, among other subjects. His works from the 1920s and 1930s, considered his best, are rather dark.
