He died on 1 July 1896 in Amsterdam. He lived and worked in Amsterdam until 1884 and in Nieuwer-Amstel until 1896. Oene Romkes de Jongh mainly painted cityscapes, including those of Amsterdam and the Zuiderzee harbours. His winter cityscapes are well-known. He also painted a few landscapes, often with a farm on a canal. He was inspired by Adriaan Evertsen and Cornelis Springer and frequently participated in exhibitions in, among others, Amsterdam (1862, 1868, 1871, 1876 and 1877) and Groningen (1874 and 1877).Dutch: #Nederlands: olieverf op doek, stadsgezicht, Amsterdam, winter, antiek, schaatsers, Westertoren.Schaatser op de Amsterdamse grachten met de Wetsertoren in de achtergrond.Attention: the last image is not part of this lot.
