Oude, met de hand geweven, zeldzame en unieke hinggi (Sumbanese mannen dragen hun hinggi tijdens de traditionele ceremonies, gevouwen over de schouder, of gebonden rond de taille) .
Hinggi zijn ontworpen om ieders rang te identificeren in de sociale orde, plaats te geven in de juiste clan, en helpen zijn voorouders om hem te herkennen in de volgende wereld.
Na de dood wordt het menselijk lichaam gehuld met zijn Hinggi
Deze oude hinggi is nog in uitzonderlijk goede staat.

These ikat cloths are culturally symbolical to the people of Sumba, each piece tells the story and ancestry of the family who created these unique textiles.

These beautiful handwoven works are multipurpose, used as a wrap, mantle, large sarong, blanket, shroud for the dead, ceremonial hanging, as dowry gifts and as as currency for barter and trade. Each clan has their own combination of sacred motifs such as flowers, goats, horses, chickens, deer, lobsters, and primitive human ancestor figures and other sacred symbols.
Men from Sumba wear these traditional clothes to ceremonies, one on his shoulder, another around the waist as a sarong. Each Hinggi motif will identify the man's rank in the community and will place him in the proper clan. After death a man is shrouded in his Hinggi, it is the belief that this will enable his ancestors to recognize him in the afterlife. The different designs and their qualities are considered sacred, their powers transfered to the man wearing the cloth.
