This three-drawer cabinet by Takayama Keyaki Kogei was carefully made in that same woodworking tradition, crafted from solid zelkova (keyaki), a wood prized in Japanese furniture and architecture for its hardness, durability, and striking, distinctive grain. Over the years, the wood has deepened into a rich amber tone, and its warm color pairs beautifully with the dark, understated black metal corner fittings, giving the piece the substantial, dignified presence typical of Japanese tansu cabinetry.Perfect as a keepsake box for keys, jewelry, cherished letters, or treasured photographs, it also stands beautifully on its own as a quiet decorative accent.
