Antique Japanese Maiwai Coat – Cranes & Victory Kanji – Meiji-Taishō Era (c.1910–1935)
A rare and beautifully preserved ceremonial Maiwai
fisherman's coat from early 20th-century Japan, featuring hand-dyed motifs of cranes, ocean waves, and bold kanji symbols 大 (great) and 勝 (victory). This celebratory jacket was traditionally gifted to successful fishermen after a big catch.
Hand-dyed on indigo cotton using tsutsugaki or katazome techniques. Likely from the Tohoku or Kanto coastal regions, dating c.1910–1935 (Late Meiji to early Showa).

Condition: Excellent for its age. No major tears, fading, or stains visible. Material: Indigo-dyed cotton
